The real cost of IQGeo and ArcGIS Utility Network for mid-market fiber operators.

IQGeo and Esri both serve large carriers. Neither publishes prices. Here's the honest cost model for a 10,000-subscriber operator evaluating both.

IQGeo and Esri ArcGIS Utility Network are the two platforms most often positioned by enterprise sales teams as the 'right' answer for fiber network management. Neither publishes prices. Both require significant implementation work. And both are, at their core, designed for Tier-1 carriers — not the 10,000-subscriber ISP or the electric cooperative doing a rural broadband overbuild.

We've talked to hundreds of mid-market operators who went through the evaluation process. Here's what the actual cost model looks like, based on those conversations.

ArcGIS Utility Network: the component-level cost model

ArcGIS Utility Network is not a standalone product. It's a configuration built on ArcGIS Enterprise — Esri's server-based GIS platform — with an additional data model (the Utility Network model) applied on top. The total deployment involves at least three cost components:

  • ·ArcGIS Enterprise licensing — the base platform. For a mid-market operator with 10–20 concurrent users, expect $50K–$150K/year. Larger deployments scale higher. Note that ArcGIS Online (the SaaS version) does not support Utility Network.
  • ·System integrator (SI) fees — Esri's recommended deployment path uses a partner SI (1Spatial, Schneider Electric, Epoch Solutions, TRC, etc.). SI fees for mid-market Utility Network implementations consistently range from $150K to $500K for the initial deployment, with ongoing advisory at $150–$250/hr.
  • ·Internal GIS staff — Utility Network requires GIS expertise to configure and maintain. A full-time GIS specialist or architect is typically required for the deployment phase. At $100K–$150K fully-loaded, that's $100K–$300K in internal labor for the 6–18 month implementation.

This is before you account for the opportunity cost of the 6–18 month implementation window, during which your fiber network is still being managed by whatever tool you're moving off of.

IQGeo Network Manager Telecom: the enterprise-deal cost model

IQGeo doesn't publish prices for NMT. From operator-reported figures, the IQGeo NMT cost model for mid-market operators (5,000–50,000 subscribers) looks like this:

  • ·Licensing — multi-year enterprise agreement. Operator-reported figures range from $80K to $300K/year for mid-market deployments. Pricing tends to be seat-based or module-based.
  • ·Professional services — IQGeo typically requires a professional services engagement for NMT deployment. Reported ranges: $100K–$400K for mid-market.
  • ·Internal team — NMT has a steeper learning curve than OSPInsight or MapItRight. Expect 3–6 months before a fiber engineer is productive. At $120K/year fully-loaded, that's a meaningful cost.

IQGeo's genuine strengths — AI-powered damage assessment using drone imagery, enterprise workforce management, large installed base of global carriers — are real. They're also features that a 10,000-subscriber ISP in rural Michigan will not use in year one, two, or three.

What the same $300K buys instead

For the median year-1 cost of either platform, an operator could run MapItRight at the Pro tier for approximately 59 years ($5,099.90/year). That's a reductio ad absurdum, but the underlying point is real: the cost gap is a factor of 10–50×, and it's structural. It's not a discount or a promotional price. It's the cost of designing a product for mid-market operators rather than Tier-1 carriers.

The right evaluation question isn't 'which platform is best?' It's 'what do I actually need?' If you're an AT&T subsidiary deploying network management for 5 million subscribers, IQGeo NMT or ArcGIS Utility Network might be the right answer. If you're a 10,000-subscriber ISP in a rural state doing a BEAD deployment, neither was designed for you — and you'll pay for that mismatch every year of the contract.

The evaluation checklist

Before signing with any platform, ask these three questions:

  1. Can you show me the per-year cost in writing, including the SI fees and internal team requirements? If the answer is 'we'll need to scope the engagement,' that's not a price.
  2. What's your median time-to-go-live for a customer with my subscriber count and network size? Ask for references from three comparable customers.
  3. What happens if I want to export my data and leave in year 3? If the answer is vague, you're signing up for lock-in that extends well past the contract term.
